The first of a planned series.
The cunieform tablets of the Babylonians recorded mathematical formulae and calculations.
Japanese characters were often used as art forms in themselves.
Combining these 2 ideas inspired me to paint modern mathematical formulae and derivations onto a tablet painting.
Mathematics is the universal language of the Universe, and the characters used by mathematics have the aura of magical spells and incantations.
This first one in the series shows the derivation of one of the cornerstones of geometry, the theory of pythagoras.
In fact a babylonian tablet shows that that this theory was known centuries before pythagoras.
In words, the theory is expressed as 'the square of the hypotensue of a right angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the 2 adjacent sides.'
