“ sunday afternoon

the walls are
losing their skin,
a slow, peeling madness.
another sunday afternoon
and the cigarette
is burning down to my fingers.

the tv sits on the fridge,
a cheap little altar,
and inside there's a fish
swimming its tiny circle
while green poison
leaks from the motor
a slow, sick waterfall.

i watch it,
and it watches me
from behind the glass.
a kind of communion
between two lost things
with nowhere to go.

the dust motes dance
in the single ray of light.
they got more life
than i do.
this is it, man,
this is the whole goddamn show,
and it's a hell of a thing to watch.”
