There’s a raw beauty to this small Yorkshire fishing village that I found irresistible. Perched between cliffs and tide, Staithes feels like a place suspended in time, yet pulsing with life.

My work is all about movement, colour, and energy. I don’t aim for photorealism; instead, I paint the *feeling* of a place—its rhythm, its atmosphere, the life it contains. With this painting, I used large brushes and expressive, loose strokes to capture the sweeping lines of the village, the clustered homes leaning into the hillside, and the boats resting in the harbour. I worked quickly, letting intuition guide my palette: vibrant oranges and reds against deep blues and greens, pushing the boundaries of realism to bring the scene alive with colour and contrast.
