Original artwork description:

30 inch square oil painting. i concentrate part of my production on still life painting. Setting up objects from around my home, photographing them in dramatic lighting with an eye on the theatricality these conditions generate.
The inanimate objects become more animated figures/characters when cast in this light. Thinking along these lines the deep basin of the slop sink has the receding character of a stage host to the daily ritual of washing up. The painting features paintbrushes, scrub brushes a nail brush, a bar of pink soap, various tubs, cups, faucets, handles and a gush of warm water but my intent is to honor the space itself; filthy, paint splattered, stained by years of utility. Every time i stand at it toiling over oily brushes I am grateful and reminded inspiration can be found anywhere if we are receptive to the potential awe found in everyday life.
