This etude tells an old story and conveys an atmosphere of profound silence and tranquility that only occurs at dawn when the city is still asleep. Gentle pastel shades of pink and purple create a sense of soft, diffused light entering the room, while a single pink rose in a green bottle and a nearby cup emphasize the intimacy of the moment. The painting is rendered in watercolor, giving it a lightness and transparency, while free brushstrokes add expression and a lively feel.
