I've always loved lava lamps and the kitsch retro-futurist style they're associated with, so I decided to paint my own pop art version. Elsewhere in my shop is a more realistic 3D still life version on canvas. I thought it'd be fun to try the same subject matter in different styles. This version is a flat pop art version set against op art style patterns - contrasting stripes and dots - all painted by hand. The final picture shows the two lava lamp paintings side by side.

The end result is a painting that would brighten any room in your house, much like the lava lamp itself.

It is painted in acrylics and Posca paint pen on high quality acid free paper. It comes unframed but I've taken photos of it in a frame for this listing.

I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, and Patrick Caulfield, but also by modern graphic designers.
