J'ai proposé aux modèles de trouver des poses avec une corde. J'ai retenu cette dernière. Elle était l'illustration d'une scène de martyre. Je peins depuis plusieurs années l'histoire de sainte Mnémogyne, sainte apocryphe, qui me donne une liberté formelle. Le fond est toujours noir. Il donne une frontalité des corps. Je bannis la couleur car je ne veux aucune séduction. Ce qui m'intéresse, c'est une lumière grise pareille à celle du crépuscule.

I asked the models to find poses with a rope. I chose this one. It was an illustration of a martyrdom scene. For several years I've been painting the story of Saint Mnemogyne, an apocryphal saint, which gives me formal freedom. The background is always black. It gives a frontal aspect to the bodies. I banish colour because I don't want any seduction. What interests me is a grey light like that of twilight.
