I created this piece to capture those magnificent rolling clouds that fill me with such joy when I’m out in the countryside. The way the light catches the blues and whites in the sky, constantly shifting and changing – that’s what I wanted to bring to life on canvas. I painted the lake below to reflect all that drama above, with the gentle hills rolling away into the distance in layers of rich greens. In the foreground, I painted the wildflowers in bold magenta and purple – I just love how those vibrant colours sing against all that fresh green. Working with quality oils means I could build up the layers slowly, letting each brushstroke capture the movement and feeling of being right there by the water’s edge.
