When creating Dance Through Ice, I aimed to capture a moment where power and grace coexist. The dancer bends backward, as if defying gravity on ice—an instant full of tension and release. I deliberately chose a low-angle composition and strong backlighting to place the viewer beneath the stage, immersed in the dancer’s emotional expression.
To heighten the drama, I used bold brushwork and warm-cool contrasts: a bluish-gray background evokes coldness and distance, while warm browns and whites on the figure highlight strength and vulnerability. I employed palette knife work and splattering techniques to simulate flying snow, symbolizing the dancer breaking through both physical and metaphorical ice.
