I painted this en plein air at Dana Point, CA. What drew me in was the sheer size of the vessel and the birds circling around it — I don’t think I’d ever seen one like it before. After a bit of research, I learned it’s used for lifting heavy loads and construction. The day was breezy with clouds overhead, but I managed to find shelter from the wind, which made for a pleasant painting experience.
