Combe Martin's dramatic coastline is captured in a fleeting moment of serene beauty, with a beautiful blend of photorealistic and impressionist techniques. The painting focuses on the sun-drenched, geological formations of sandstone and slate cliffs that plunge toward the shore. Below, the rock pools of the foreground, smoothed by the retreating tide, possess a soft, luminous turquoise glow, their still surfaces acting as liquid mirrors. The reflection of the craggy, textured cliff face dances on the water, slightly diffused and broken in the impressionist style by the gentle ripples.
