“Carafe” is a luminous watercolor still life that explores the interplay of light, transparency and refraction. The delicate glass carafe glows with iridescent hues — subtle pinks, violets, soft golds — as it captures and bends ambient light across its faceted form. The composition is rooted in a quiet elegance: the bottle stands alone, yet the surrounding negative space and reflected shadows extend the visual narrative. I was inspired by the beauty of simple objects when lit just right, where transparency becomes a kind of poetry.

In creating this piece, I used multiple glazing layers of transparent watercolor over high-quality, cold-press paper, gradually building depth in both the highlights and the subtle midtones. I allowed the white of the paper to serve as the luminosity source, carefully preserving negative space and drawing the contours with fine washes. The result is a study in delicate tonal transitions and optical effect.
