This painting was inspired by a boy I watched feeding birds - they were pigeons, but I changed them to doves because they suited the painting and the expression of the child.
He was very still and sat quietly as the birds came to take the bread from his hands.

The sun was just setting as he sat beside the pond, looking at me steadily as I sketched him.
