Maria Esperanza was born in a hopeful time.
It was initiated at a time of great hope for Chile. A new constitution was going to be voted to replace the constitution left behind by the coup general Pinochet, but the people did not accept the proposal presented, which was a hard blow for many of us.
It seemed our hopes were dead but I refuse to lose hope. For me sunflowers are a symbol of hope and that is why this woman is painted surrounded by sunflowers.
