    Spring Show

    I start this years round of Hampshire based public exhibitions with the Spring Show at the Yellow Edge Gallery in Gosport, Hampshire, from 3rd -11th March. I will be exhibiting three of my Hillier Gardens inspired floral paintings as well as a range of limited edition prints and originals on paper.

    Rainforest

    Rainforest

    It has been nice to be evoking memories of the Belize rainforest during dull days in February in the UK this past week! In 1993 I spend the entire of February in Belize ( and briefly Guatemala). It was fabulous as it seemed a really short winter. We visited the Jaguar sanctuary and went looking for Jaguars on horseback... all we saw were fresh paw pints in the mud unfortunately ... still a great memory!

    Costa Brava

    This week I have enjoyed continuing to be inspired by Sorolla and exploring my photo library, to be transported to the sunny Costa Brava.. whilst remaining in my Southampton studio in cold English February! I have many such similar photos and the truth is I cannot remember the name of the particular village. Lovely yellow ceramic tiled step risers!

    I have been inspired by the fantastic Garden paintings of the Spanish impressionist painter Sorolla lately. Even though Monet called him the 'master of light', he does not seem to get nearly enough recognition.

    Winchester Mists

    Winchester Mists

    I like to generally reflect the seasons in my paintings and there is a special quality to landscape in Winter...but I am aching now for Spring time and some truly dark darks and light lights!

    I have re-worked some of my paintings inspired by the fantastic Centenary flower borders at Hillier Gardens this week. Having been separated from them for some time I am pleased with the results. Sometimes a bit of absence and a fresh eye is a good thing!

    Pre Christmas Sale

    I have a range of paintings offered in my Pre Christmas sale on Artfinder with a 25% reduction including my paintings 'Pitt Winter I' and Pitt Winter II ' .These paintings which form a diptych are based on the view from the Romsey Road out of Winchester towards Pitt Village... I remember that the landscape was so cold that it was blue!

    My latest painting sale to a purchaser based in the USA has brought my tally to 60 paintings sold through Artfinder, many across America to buyers in Maryland, California, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Georgia, Indiana and New York states which I find very satisfying.

    Farley

    Farley

    I am very pleased that my Painting 'Farley II' sold this week to a purchaser in Winchester. This painting was created 'En Plein Air ' at the Farley mount monument on the outskirts of Winchester. There is definitely an added extra quality to paintings that are created at the place that they are depicting I feel. I think that it is because it is a composite of impressions over a period of time.

    I am particularly pleased to have sold my painting 'Winchester Cathedral II' to a buyer in Winchester. It is a bit different and one of a series of four. Not to everyone's taste but just needed the right buyer. In this case a nice young lady. It takes 60 years to get the perspective wrong in the right way like this!
