You can just feel the calm and quiet in this henhouse.....bliss (I imagine) is sitting on ones eggs, cosy and warm in boxes filled with straw.
This collage has a real organic, country feel to it. I have used an old vintage grain sack that I found at a Brocante here in France and washed it so it is all soft and lovely. That forms the hen house as it were and the nesting boxes are made of hessian and "filled" with hessian and yellow woollen thread for straw. There are some corduroy "repairs" of the nesting boxes. The hens are made of a cream linen and I have used gouache to give the hens some details. Everything has been individually stitched on with black thread to give it some depth.
I have then sewn the henhouse onto a kind of mustard yellow background to continue the straw/country feel. The collage is backed with sturdy white cotton and I have embroidered the name of the collage and my signature on the front.
The collage has a channel at the top so it can be hung from a pole or wooden dowel so it is ready to hang but can also be framed if that is preferred.
