Artist's description:

Welwitschia is a living plant- dinosaur that lives in arid zones. It can get 2500 years old. As long as they live they have only two leaves that never stop growing. As you see in the picture the oldest part dry out and get brown. They are either male or female.

I portraied this female individual in botanical garden of university of zurich, Switzerland. The gardener has spent 7 years to let this plant grow and finally come to fruition building blossoms. In this state the fertilized blossoms are 7 months old and carry the fruit for future welwitschia mirabilis in it.

As this plant was the gardeners heart project he and the successful fertilization represented a special moment he wanted it to be celebrated in a painting. So he commissioned two big watercolorpaintings. I did multiple ones and offer here a smaler exemplare for sale.

Materials used:

finest Canson coton grain satin, hot pressed 300g watercolor paper
