Guanyin is an East Asian spiritual figure of mercy, and a bodhisattva associated with compassion as venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. The name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin (觀世音) which means "Perceiving the Sounds (or Cries) of the World". This is the second piece of work for "THE GODS ARE CRYING" collection.
Guanyin is revered in the general Chinese population due to her unconditional love and compassion. She is also seen as a fertility goddess capable of granting children to couples.
Guanyin is also seen as the champion of the unfortunate, the sick, the disabled, the poor, and those in trouble.
In this painting Guanyin is wrapped in intricate black (a color which the Chinese deemed unauspicious) and gold floral motif satin to reflect the ominious state of the world today.
Thus Guanyin cries.
