The title, "Swan Lake", speaks to the ballet side of synchronized swimming. The girls are all showing the ballet position of "petite passe". I studied ballet for 6-7 years (25 years ago) and appreciate the discipline and strength it takes to make something beautiful look effortless. When combining ballet with synchronized swimming, I'm even more impressed. As a painting, the complimentary colors, the reflections in the pool as well as the repeating pattern inspired me to paint this moment. This is a large painting and draws lots of attention. As it hung in my studio drying, I had quite a few visitors praise the finished work. This image has been rolling around in my head for over a year and I am very pleased with the outcome. The edges are painted. It has fully cured now and is ready to hang in that special place.
