Artist's description:

Subculture - occupied house in zurich "CHALCHI"
This house has a special story.
It was called "CHALCHI" and represented zurichs most legendary occupied house. This center of subculture was situated in midst of the city of zurich. It has been occupied for 6 years till the morning of march 17, 2010 it was taken over by the police. This photo was taken 3 days before on march 14th 2010.

On the front of the house if you look closely you can see a banner. It says "see you around in the neigbourhood", in german ("bis demnächst in der Nachbarschaft"). It was put there by the inhabitants two days before they left the house and it sums up the energy of the moment:

In 6 years of occupancy was used as a center and meeting point for subculture music like punk music and street art and of course all kind of people lived there opposing the government and the laws. Then it was decided that the building will be torn down and all inhabitants have to leave.
"see you around in the neigbourhood", the sun on the angle of the house, the rain that had left the street wet and shiny sums up the feeling for me. Something like.: "we are not giving up.. we continue..."

Nobody knew exactly when they would take the house down. Just by chance I went there to shoot photos the last three days before the government sent police and construction machines to tear it down completely. Also I got to enter the house the day the break down machines arrived. I slipped in the building site shortly after all windows were removed. Every inside wall was now in plain light and you could see that they were completely covered with paintings and art.
And so I shot a couple of photos of the inside art before the construction chief "threw" me out of the house...
But those minutes were enough to get some daylight photos of the inside walls. (Ask me for them if you are interested on those too.)

This artwork represents a unique photo of the site, and no similar photo is being released. I took several photos but each photo is completely different in its character. This photo is the centerpiece of the Chalchi-photoshooting.

Today after 8 years on it`s place there is a huge business/living complex with restaurants, cinema, and apartments.

I am in love with Hahnemühle Photo Rag Fine Print paper made of 100% Cotton. For me it`s a pure joy to have this special photo printed on it. The velvet surface wants you to touch it and is a massage for the eyes. Printed with EPSON finest UltraChrome PRO 9-colour pigmented ink.

Giclée printing is a fine art printing process using pigment-based inks rather than the dye-based inks found in most standard printers. Giclée printing is done by a large-format machine that can print onto a variety of archival substrates including canvas. The results are high-quality, long-lasting fine art reproductions and limited edition prints.

For this photo following fine art printing paper and ink are used:

--> Hahnemühle PhotoRag is the classic fine art paper. Photo Rag is a real Fourdrinier paper from pure cotton fiber with a beautiful matte, velvety surface.

Hahnemühle is the reference for high-quality rag papers with a unique inkjet coating. PhotoRag is pH neutral, alkaline buffered and contains only small amounts of optical brighteners.

--> The fine art archival printing ink used is Epson UltraChrome PRO 9-colour pigmented ink set for exceptional colour and long lasting resistant quality.
