Artwork description:

When I thought about how to actually depict Gravestown in the graphic novel I took the approach that the place itself was a living entity. It’s inhabitants were as varied as they were strange and the environment needed to be a suitable habitat for these people and creatures. Gravestown accommodates the variety by adapting it’s various regions to suit those that occupy it. It also has a strange preference for what fills those environs and a whimsical liking for whatever building or object takes its fancy. Familiar landmarks may be unrecognisable for being surrounded or even fused with contrasting or contradictory buildings and objects.
When Emma arrives, every aspect of Gravestown is an assault on the senses; every street, building and life form must be assessed and evaluated, initially as a way of accepting their reality but subsequently as a way to determine the extent of their threat.
