Artist's description:

Painting: Oil and cold wax medium on Wood.

90 x 60 x 2 cm

In nature time is always occupied; endlessly engaged, transforming surfaces, altering appearances..... staining and corroding, layering and revealing, cleansing and encasing.

This image uses successive layers of cold wax, allowing for both heavy impasto and fine incisions with a variety of tools and instruments. It is based directly on the landscape of the Fens within a ten mile radius of Ely cathedral. Most days, if you are in the area, you will find me cycling through this landscape. I stop to draw, to take photographs and just allow this world to etch my memory. These paintings are as much about accumulated experience as a specific location. Straight as an arrow dykes, uneven roads and ploughed fields track across my retina and fire my imagination.

This is an oil painting using a cold wax and oil medium on a birch wood panel.

Keywords: texture, cold wax, abstraction, landscape
