Artist's description:

I have always been inspired by big cats, to be fair they have inspired most wildlife artists. It is hard to avoid cliches when describing them, majestic, awesome, magnificent etcetera. But I don't apologise, a cliche only becomes a cliche because it is true - they are majestic, they are awesome and they are magnificent. The reason I paint is because I don't always manage to portray emotion and description in words. Instead I give my paintings license to communicate on my behalf. Morning General was inspired by a documentary about the shrinking habitat available to lions in the wild, this young male is just coming into his prime, and will be looking to find a territory and a lioness in a shrinking world.
