This painting is from my 2014 'Secrets & Skies' series. These paintings were about the way in which open spaces bear silent witness to our thoughts, emotions and secrets. All my paintings are a reflection of that inner dialogue with the Landscape.
This particular painting is a loose view of the Preseli mountains near my studio, in Pembrokeshire, Wales. (However, that isn't really the point!) It could be anywhere, because it's really about the feeling, not the place. In this case metaphorically enjoying space and distance; being alone for ones own emotional protection. The distance is cool but the foreground and overall feeling is warm. The title reflects the sentiments of the painting.
The painting combines a variety of techniques; staining and glazing in thin layers, gradually building up thickness and texture. Paint has been applied with brushes, knives, rags and sometimes fingers! It is painted, scraped, and spattered on, (and sometimes off again), until the finished painting presented itself.
