Artist's description:

The Kanza Trials are located in the Flint Hills East of Manhattan, KS. Kanza was my plein air trip to the flint hills early in the summer . I tried two paintings and they were a disaster. I had to hike 4 miles and climb these damn hills only to have a 40 mph wind blow my stuff around at the top. I left dragging my canvasses down the mountain having my paintings smeared in the brush along the way. It was a great 4 mile hike but not with painting equipment to haul with wet canvases. On the way down I dropped my french easel and paintings, stopped to pick up my stuff and looked back up the mountain. This was steps I traveled down. My easel and paintings spilled all over the ground and all I could think of was the struggle to paint that day and thought it was best to paint the climb. Painting the path was my experience of a brutal day of plain air painting.
