Artwork description:

My etching “Blue Day” was created during the lock-down period in spring 2020.
'Blue Day' is a moody expression of the uncertain time we have all been
experiencing in the last year.
In the centre of the print stands an abstract 'figure' that has only just emerged - or it could be about to disappear into the distance. To me, this ambivalence expresses the changing world we experiencing. It is quite an imaginative image.

“I could dive right into that blue” was a friend's comment on this etching.

'Blue Day' is printed from 3 plates. It has an element of mono type printing to it and is therefore not printed in strict edition, instead it is a series of 20 monotypes, with each individual print slightly varying from the others.
The image here shows monotype etching number 1 of 20.
Each print is an original impression taken from the inked up etching plates, hand printed by me on acid free fine art printing paper in my studio in Brighton. The image size is 35cm x 35cm with a paper margin of 8cm all around.

Materials used:

etching plate, printing ink, printing press, fine art printing paper
