I made this painting after not painting for a long time. I didn't know what I was going to paint, but just let myself play. It was a time in my life in which I suddenly had lots of choices and I was feeling very excited about the future. This painting resulted in an exploration of these choices, deciding what path to take, and considering some avenues which were not quite so obvious, hence the trompe l'oeil. At first sight, this painting might appear chaotic, and on reflection, all the colours and patterns create perfect balance and harmony.
The canvas bars are handmade and the corners have bowed slightly (part of the charm), however, if you prefer, this can be rectified with framing, or re-stretching.
Acrylic, ink, varnish, glue, felt tip and pencil on stretched canvas.
