Artwork description:

Taken in 2019, this photograph is of a section of pavement alongside Copenhagen Harbour, located along the axis created by Frederik's Church (the Marble Church, or Marmorkirken) and Copenhagen Opera House (Operaen). I am drawn to the organic lines created by cracks in pavement, and this case to the shape created by the paint sprayed along it (presumably in order to highlight it for later repair), and the footprint in the dust that has fallen upon it.

The image is part of a collection drawn together to form an artist's book exploring the Copenhagen harbour area over five years of yearly visits. I am interested in the role of time on space, and the construction of memory, and this image is of a specific place at a specific time - the footprint, as well as the crack in the pavement, ephemeral.

The image is printed on archival quality bamboo inkjet paper, handmade at the Agawami factory in Japan. It is a soft paper with a subtle texture and slightly warm tone that complements my work beautifully.

Materials used:

Epson archival pigment inks on Agawama Washi Bamboo 170gsm handmade paper
