This image was painted from a series of photographs of a private garden in Fife, Scotland. I was fascinated by the shape of this frilly-petalled columbine, called 'Nora Barlow'! The dark background brings a lovely contrast to the almost ghost-like, glowing quality of the columbine flowerhead. The painting was created after the larger Columbine painting (also featured here on my ArtFinder profile).

Original oil painting on a hand-built box canvas stretcher. The sides have pristine, white edges, and it is sealed using Gamvar archive quality picture varnish. I use only professional grade Old Holland and Michael Harding oils, for their high pigment content, and excellent light fastness.
