This oil painting shows a seated female nude between two blocks of gold, against a black background.
For this painting I was inspired by sculpture. In classical architecture, caryatids are sculpted female figures that serve as an architectural support, like a column or a pillar. You usually see these caryatids, patiently supporting the roof of a building. Due to my painting technique, this caryatid pops out of the painting like a three dimensional sculpture, ready to step out of it any moment now. Freedom! Not even gold can hold her back.
This oil painting is a handmade, unique artwork, signed at the back. It is painted on linen, using artist grade oil paints, media and varnish. The painting is composed of several overlapping layers that work together to create a three-dimensional effect. You can find more detailed information on my painting method including a few examples of successive paint layers of a painting in the 'Me at work' section of this website.
The artwork will be shipped in a sturdy cardboard box, secured and wrapped in special laminated bubble wrap to ensure the safety of the painting during transport. Shipping is provided by PostNL. For NL, PostNL usually delivers the next day after shipping, Europe, 2-5 days.
