Artist's description:

I have been learning egg tempera painting recently and this is my most detailed work to date. It was inspired by a trip to Edinburgh Botanic Gardens on a beautiful, clear, sunny day in September when all the trees and bushes were beginning to turn colour and looked stunning in the autumn light.

The painting is made in egg tempera paint, on traditional gesso, on plywood panel. Egg tempera is an ancient painting technique, in which powdered pigments are mixed with water and egg yolk and painted onto a wooden panel covered with many layers of traditional gesso. It is very long lasting and was used for many of the famous religious paintings and frescoes from previous centuries.
