"Golden hour gossip! - Sunlit Still Life in Oils, 2015" by Nithya Swaminathan

“I love painting sunlight and brightly lit still lifes, but I had never painted the evening light until now. My studio window is east facing, so when I paint in the early evening, it is usually natural light but not bright sunlight. The other day, the evening sun was shining bright and bathing my kitchen in the warm glow. So I moved my set up to the kitchen, set up these fruits randomly on the floor and sat down to paint. Well, anything for a slice of the sun!”

“A great level of detail has gone into this still life. Very bright. Spicy. Yum!”

"Rain on The Sea, 2015" by Helen Wells

“A beautiful abstracted watercolour painting called Rain on the Sea. Made by adding multiple layers of watercolour paint. The work incorporates iridescent watercolour paint so parts of the work shimmer and glow. Hand drawn detail on the sea.”

"MAS ALLA DEL PLACER, 2015" by Tomasa Martin

“Newspapers, for me, are a tool that allow me to tell the stories of various characters. In this case, the character of Steve Jobs introduces the debate of how computers are a tool for developing creativity.”

"LIFT ME UP, 2015" by db Waterman

“A boy is walking outside with his balloons, trying to escape the gloomy reality in which he lives. I assemble original photography, assorted papers, acrylics, oil, charcoal, ink and pencil in all of my works. Having always loved the appearance of weathered walls plastered with peeling paint and old posters, I revive this aesthetic with hopefully a keen and professional eye. The creative objective of my work is to “make something beautiful out of dilapidation.” My tableaux explore the dissonance between old and new materials, intertwined in the most beautiful possible way to create dreamlike and melancholy images.”

"Ashes to Ashes Dust to Dust, 2015" by The Empress' Kiss

“We shall all end just as we began, as dust. Ourselves, and everything around us comes from ancient stars. The atoms inside ourselves long ago formed inside a long gone star, you could say we are all about 13 billion years old! Suddenly, we realise that these wrinkles we see in the mirror really are so very young, yet so very old. One of my favourite childhood memories is flying kites with my late father. The kites are attached to the vibrant orange flames in the foreground which are symbolic of heat, warmth and the sun, vital ingredients for life.”

"Evening light on Atlantic Drive, Achill, 2008" by Aidan Flanagan Irish Landscapes

“"Evening Light on Atlantic Drive, Achill" was inspired by my many visits to the West of Ireland island of Achill. Each time that I visit this magic place, I schedule a walk along the southern coast of the island, which is part of the wider "Atlantic Drive". Late evening, when the weather permits, allows spectacular views towards the western end of the island, with the shafts of evening sunlight playing with the landscape and seascape. I love this print because it brings me right back to the source.”

"Italian Graffiti 3 - Ciao!, 2015" by Rosalind Roberts

"Browsing around the city where I live can be very stimulating and Milan has a lot to offer. As well as some beautiful architecture and art in general, Leonardo's Last Supper can be seen here! On the downside, Milan's walls are often covered with graffiti and I have selected a few of the more interesting and colourful images and roughly adapted them as background to my ongoing series 'Italian Graffiti'."

"Gradbatch lane, 2014" by David Barber

“This quiet little lane is situated in a hidden valley behind a rocky outcrop known as 'The Roaches' in the English Peak District. It leads to a very narrow rocky gorge known as Ludds Church. I often visit this area as it's only a short distance from my house. On this particular day the light cast beautiful shadows across the lane and I immediately thought it would make a good painting.”

"I look and wonder, 2015" by Marta Zawadzka

"In my works I try to dress up emotions in beautiful and harmonious forms, to show the depth of everyday life - and hope I succeed with this little guy! My goal is to give life to colours and shapes."
