"chess game, 2016" by Asterios Lamprou

“There are hundreds of lines to this painting. Beautiful curved lines, awkward lines, strange lines of light and darkness, of turquoise and brown, of green and grey, opposing each other, in an almost random way. But if you take a few minutes to observe them accurately, you come to understand that there is order behind the chaos. Just as happens in a game of chess.

"Take Me to Eventide, 2016" by Kerr Ashmore

“'Take Me to Eventide' was created through pure emotion and longing. I dreamed of being home in the UK after a long period away. I imagined the evening sun warming me as it set, and felt the love of family and friends and that feeling you get when you are, at last, at home. I'm very proud that this painting was just one of my pieces selected for a very important and exclusive exhibition in Kensington, London, which celebrated timeless beauty with contemporary art and antiques and where it hung with works by the likes of Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst.”

"Golden Ruins, 2016" by Snehal Page

“Sarnath is one of the four most important Buddhist pilgrimage centres of India. Buddha, the great sage, after attaining enlightenment (Buddha-hood) at Bodh Gaya came to Sarnath and delivered his first sermon to five disciples (i.e. Kaundinya, Bashpa, Bhadrika, Mahanaman and Ashvajit) for redeeming humanity. It is this place where foundation of a new order of monks (Sangha) and a new order of religious doctrine (Dhamma) was laid.”

"SF Houses, 2016" by Gozde Temiz Istanbul

“The architecture of San Francisco is not so much known for defining a particular architectural style, rather, with its interesting and challenging variations in geography and topology and tumultuous history, San Francisco is known worldwide for its particularly eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture. In SF Houses, I try to give these great details in its architecture from a street view.”

""The tall grasses" - Large size on stretched canvas - 90X90 cm - Edged painted., 2015" by Fabienne Monestier

“Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a stimulus (an image or a sound) wherein the mind perceives a familiar pattern of something where none actually exists. Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, the man in the moon, the moon rabbit... For this painting, I wanted a vegetal atmosphere. On the white canvas, I made light spots, with a liquid, transparent paint. No model, no sketches. And, in the random spots on the canvas, I created foliage and flowers that emerged from these pal spots. This is how I built this work up to its final appearance.”

"Small Fry, 2016" by Chris Walker

“I was standing at the back of the boat haplessly sprinkling crumbs on the water. You could see the bottom in places, and then the small fish gathering in the sunlit shallows. The ripples on the surface cast strange striped shadows on the fish, that were in fact quite plainly coloured. Did the refracted light add to their camouflage or not? I made a simple sketch and returned to the studio to work up something appropriate. The main difference in the oil painting is that I have painted in glazed layers to add to the sense of depth, and included some surface foam as a visual datum.”

"Wine Bottle & Eggplant, 2000" by Dina Cheney

“As well as being an artist, I’m a cookbook author, and wanted to show my starting point for creating new dishes and meals. Here, I assembled a bottle of red wine, an eggplant, bell peppers, and an apple. Inspired by the brightly-hued fruit and vegetables, I depicted the scene with acrylic paint and then headed to the kitchen to prepare ratatouille, with baked apples for dessert! I love this piece because the apple and vegetables truly “jump” out of the canvas, the hues are so saturated, and the viewer’s eye truly moves around the scene.”

"One Day You will Come Back, 2014" by Amélie Berton

“In the photo series Japonaiserie, I wanted to share my interest for the culture of the land of the rising sun. The idea of a series inspired on fairytales was born from the encounter with the local Japanese community. Fairytales are not mere bedtime’ stories, they are window on the culture and spiritual belief of a society. Drifted along by my imagination, I created this series, as a dream captured by my camera.”

"Italian Cityscape - Flowers in Florence, 2016" by Nithya Swaminathan

“When in Italy, you usually want to paint everything in sight. I ended up painting some, sketching some and only manage to take some pictures. This was one such image that called out to me, but since I had none of my materials in hand, I had to just do with taking a picture. I finally got around to painting it and boy was it fun!”

"The sun rises over London, 2016" by Alex Ebdon

“Another day awakens in London. The sun emerges from behind the towers in the distance, bathing the scene in a vibrant golden glow. The herringbone clouds catch the colours - peach, gold and amber. The horizon is lit up with a crimson warmth, the Shard standing centrally in the scene. Good morning, London. Let's see what today has in store.”
