“I transform reality, creating a unique and artistic world that sees the interaction of animals, nature and things. The nature of my work is also not directly displayed, but transformed in specific artistic idea. With this piece I aim to transport you away from reality into another world.”
For this piece, I was inspired by an extract from the William Butler Yeats poem: "We sat under an old thorn tree, And talked away the night', Told all that had been said or done, Since first we saw the light, And when we talked of growing up, Knew that we'd halved a soul, And fell the one in t'other's arms, That we might make it whole."
“I was walking in a pine forest one quiet morning. I know this forest path well, I have been there many times. Suddenly a special moment came. First I heard the rustle of the branches as though they were sharing thousands of small secrets all around me. A gentle wind played with my hair, asking me to stay. Then the sound of birds began fill the air, the rays of the sun penetrating the woods illuminating the dew drops. It was a magical moment - a forest in song!”
“Birds of prey are a favorite subject, and I have walked many woodland trails to seek, observe and photograph them. In this painting, a peregrine falcon captures a grass snake and flies to a broken pine for lunch. But as something distracts the bird, the little snake takes the opportunity to slither from his talons. I strive to capture the detail of each feather: the way they lift slightly in the breeze and the way the sunlight reflects upon them. My hope is to capture a natural moment in time for a viewer to bring into their home.”
“I often begin a painting not knowing what it’s going to be. I enjoy being absorbed in the process of creating and I let the colors and shapes guide and inspire me. That was the case with this piece and I was surprised to discover the outcome, a hidden vision had been revealed.”
“This is another addition to my series of abstract florals as I continue to push myself in new directions. For me, the process of painting and how the piece evolves away from my initial idea is almost as important as the finished result. There is a certain joy and thrill in not knowing the destination when I embark on each artistic journey! I've used metal leaf for texture and glow, heavy black outlining and a piece of map from an old atlas to give added interest to this bold and simple painting.”
“This print is my interpretation of the meaning of life. It was created for the Brisbane Art Prize 2016 and I was one of the finalists. The print is titled 'Survive', because survival is essentially what life is about - we have to overcome problems and find solutions. This print is also about companionship and love. When you’re lucky, in difficult times beloveds care for you to make it easier for you to survive. In my case, I had some problems with my health and was going through a somewhat difficult period for a couple of years. My lovely wife Anita helped me where she could and therefore this print is also about us.”
“The beauty and grace of the human form has inspired artists from Greek era. I have tried to illustrate this beauty in impressionistic colours with the help of anatomical study, painted from a live model in the studio.”

It is both a container and content, a vessel for storing our lives. Light and shadow cast by architecture break up streets and alleyways. This series of paintings turns architectural constructs into abstract visions of metropolitan spaces, with no ambitions other than focusing solely on the perception of color, space, shadow and light.”
