Sky Landscape Artist of the year 2020 -Wildcard

I was pleased to gain a place once again as a wild card entry in this year's Heat 3 Landscape artist of the year held at West Wycombe House in Buckinghamshire. We had to carry all of our canvases, paints, easel, chair, table and provisions a fair distance this year and have now invested in a nice collapsible trolley !

    Looking For Beauty

    Looking For Beauty

I have been drawn to the striking heat map images of Siberia this past month. 100.4 degrees F. Unprecedented and beyond alarming and this really is the last call for sanity. The images are incredibly powerful and even 'beautiful' as images. Can a ravaged and despoiled landscape and planet really offer beautiful images? The human spirit is uncrushable and cannot help but look for beauty even in this unfolding vision of hell? I am continuing to look for beauty in the creation of my latest paintings Heat I and Heat II.

    Working on some large paintings

    Working on some large paintings

I have been working on some large painting in the past few weeks up to 1.5m x1.0m. It is very satisfying to paint at this scale but storage and transport is of course an issue!!!! The asking prices for the paintings has to go up but it is important to take into account the significant additional materials and time involved to create the paintings and also the costs involved in packaging and postage. Still... visually they have that added impact! Scaling up has only been a viable proposition now that I have my new studio, which I am very fortunate to have...but it is filling up!

Sale of 40 paintings on Artfinder

Sale of 40 paintings on Artfinder

This week after over 6 years of listing work on Artfinder it feels like a small milestone to have sold my 40th painting (of around 120 original's in total) through the platform. They say that persistence is the key to all things ! I have stayed fairly true to painting style, subjects and methods. Volume of sales and financial profit are only two measures of success and achieving this will always be a struggle for any artist. Like all artists the quest continues. I have had some great feedback from people who have had the faith to purchase my paintings and this has been hugely rewarding. Many thanks to you all.

    Spring Garden II

    Spring Garden II

I have been working on a series of economical small and cheerful acrylic paintings on paper supplied with a simple mount which can be easily posted. In these difficult 'lockdown' times, it is still possible to find inspiration in my garden which I am very fortunate to have. These paintings do make effective abstract images. I also market painting images on 'Fine Art America' who generate prints from artists images as well as a range of products including mugs, cushions, towels shower curtains.... you name it . ( well it was good enough for Picasso! ). I noted yesterday that they have also started printing artists images on to fabric face masks... Spring Garden II makes a really striking one. Strange times indeed.

'Blue' takes me to 18,000 'loves' on Artfinder

'Blue' takes me to 18,000 'loves' on Artfinder

Reasons to be cheerful in these challenging times..... My minimalist painting 'Blue' has tipped me over the 18,000 recorded loves on Artfinder. Resorting to minimalism is the least that I can do! Many thanks to all those who have given their support. It feels like an important milestone and means a great deal to me.

Southampton City Art Gallery Open submission

Southampton City Art Gallery Open submission

Most open exhibitions have been postponed or cancelled in the UK but the Southampton City Art Gallery Open exhibition is still running at the moment. The Theme is the 400 year anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower from Southampton to America. One of the sub themes is migration and this is my initial response. The painting is still evolving.

    Jacksons Art Prize 2020

    Jacksons Art Prize 2020

I have submitted my painting 'Spring time in Andaluthia IV' in the Jacksons Arts Prize this year. Huge competition ....but persistence is the key! I have used pastes in this painting to create a three dimensional quality to the lemons and have applied lemon oil to the rear of the painting to give it an olfactory as well as visual quality ! This is one of my favourite paintings as it really evokes my memories of warm Andaluthia springtime.
