    Impatient for Spring

Generally I tend to follow the seasons with my landscape inspired paintings but I am getting impatient for Spring now! I am still enjoying using my latest purchase of Windsor and Newton professional iridescent paints.

    Nebula VI

    Nebula VI

Nebulae are a great distraction from the shameful, selfish state of politics in the United Kingdom currently. This mess too will pass..... and Nebulae will of course remain.

    Freshwater Bay in Winter III

    Freshwater Bay in Winter III

Great subject and particularly in Winter when the Atlantic waves crash in. .....Spending some time immersed in this special place at the moment. Can you hear the sea? The nature of the rounded rocks and the shape of the bay creates a unique sound.

    Freshwater Bay

    Freshwater Bay

I hope that I have captured this recent windy day at Freshwater Bay. The bay is known to have a unique sound as the stones are moved up the beach and being pulled back into the sea. I never tire of visiting this very special place.

    Nymphaea alba

    Nymphaea alba

I have been inspired to look again at the vibrant colours in Monet's water lily paintings. There are a series that Monet created with a combination of ultramarine blue, Alizarin crimson and phthalo green which are particularly striking. I have used these colours and added a twist with iridescent green and blue shades. I need 16 years more practice on just this subject!

    Freshwater Bay in Winter

    Freshwater Bay in Winter

I have enjoyed creating this large painting this week depicting the crashing waves at the spectacular Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight in recent weeks. The Bay takes on a special character at this time of year where it seems to be fully exposed to the full force of the Atlantic ocean. Indeed you can draw a line directly from the Bay across to Florida without hitting any other landmass... This seems surprising to me for the Isle of Wight ....or is it obvious?

    Winter Sun

I have enjoyed creating a bright diptych this week inspired by seed heads silhouetted against a silvery winter sun.
