Artwork description:

This is one of my favourite spots on Hampstead Heath, on the edge of the Heath Extension in North London, also known as 'Sandy Heath'. I come here to sketch and sometimes I redraw my images onto plates..
This is developed from a sketch made late November at 3pm when the light is just starting to drop.

The technique is drypoint, a form of etching where the image is created by scratching directly onto the plate. Since no acid is needed, the metal isn't dissolved as on an etched plate, but is thrown up on each side of the line, creating a thicker, soft line. This wears down with each successive print, hence the small edition of 10 prints.

I've left ink or polished it off in areas to create the tone - this is the painterly mono printing part of the process. I've also added a little watercolour to the figures. Each handcrafted print is unique and variable and numbered E.V (Edition Variable)

Orders are wrapped in acid-free tissue, flat-packed between two layers of board in a stiffened envelope and dispatched signed and tracked within four days.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send a message!

Materials used:

somerset satin paper 300g, Intaglio printing inks, etching press
