In 1987 my work was extensively large pastels, some very large. Around this time I was illustrating a set of book-covers by an Arab author called Nawal El Saadawi for Zed Books, one of which is the same title as this (see one on Abe Books). The image for that book cover was a similar pose but it is a more stark image in black, white and red. This is a 'softer' version.

I always use professional chalk pastels: Sennelier, Rembrandt or Rowney. The paper is 22 x 30 inched Somerset 300 gsm paper with a fine tooth. After my pastels are completed I spray them lightly to 'fix' them with a pastel fixative

When framing any pastel it is an idea to 'float' the image so that the pretty deckled edge of the paper is visible. Just a preference. The mount board can of course cover the edge of the paper too. It is advisable to keep the pastel away from the glass. A good framer will advise.
