Artist's description:

Spending Easter with my family on the Isle of Skye, I set out to paint this view of Portree Bay with the snow-capped Cuillin ridge in the background. This is a popular view for photographers and artists on Skye. I have focused on the Spring atmosphere with budding leaves on the bush on the left, the still muted colours of the landscape in the diatance, with just a hint of Spring green and snow in the gulleys on the Cuillins.
It was raining most of the time that I painted this painting - that soft Skye drizzle that gives us the same effect as constantly spraying the painting and so it has a nice softness about it! There´s real Hebridean water in this Hebridean watercolour - from above!
On the other hand, with that dampness and chilly breeze straight in off the sea, it was so absolutely freezing for working outdoors and I didn´t want to have a rain-speckled sky - raindrops can cause unwanted white dots in a wash- so I finished off this plein air work in my sister´s warm, cosy cottage while she prepared the fresh salmon for dinner!´s an artist´s life! :-)
