A pastel painting of a frog amongst raspberries and physalis. I had so much fun with the colours in this piece...loved the orange and pinks!
I started this work by using pan pastels to paint the background in this piece and to block in a loose impression of the frog, fruit and leaves. I then spent many hours adding the details with a combination of pastel pencils and soft pastel sticks.
The challenge with every piece is to let the viewer see something of the life behind the image. To do this, I try to capture the play of light in the eyes and the sense of movement in the body. The real challenge here was to create a realistic stone statue.
The subjects must “come to life” before I am satisfied and can call it complete.
This artwork is unframed.
