Nandhi from my House of God series ! Complete fingerpainting with no brushes or paletteknife used !
Nandi is the Vehicle and the gate-keeper for Lord Shiva. Sage Shilada wanted an immortal child and seeing his dedication, Lord Indra requested him to pray to Lord Shiva. For 1000 years, he did the penance and was immovable, termites covered his whole body leaving only bones. Lord Shiva then appeared and gave his old form with his touch & the boon for the child. Yagna was performed & was celebrated with dances, songs and blessings from great sages - Nandi (who brings joy) was born. His armour was studded with diamonds. When he was bought home, Nandi forgot all about his birth & lost his divinity. At age 7, he was well versed in Vedas. When 2 sages, Mitra & Varuna visited Sage Shilada they told him that Nandi will not live after he turns 8 years. Shilada was totally upset, so Nandi prayed to Lord Shiva, who then appeared and blessed him to be immortal & to be his vehicle (Vahana) & affirmed that he would be worshipped along with him;he was transformed into half bull-half human with all the divine powers. I have represented both sun & moon depicting that he safeguards lord shiva during the day and night and his whole life !
