Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

For my book Arc of the Gurkha, I documented the life and work of British Gurkhas all over the world; their recruitment in Nepal, basic training in the UK, deployment in Afghanistan, exercises in Australia, Brunei and Kenya and retirement in Nepal and the UK.
This picture was actually done to check the light while the soldiers were lining up on the Brunei beach after a strenuous exercise.
