Artist's description:

The small hamlet of Pin Mill nestles on the River Orwell just south of Ipswich. The Butt & Oyster public house serves great beer and food to sustain the visiting artists that regularly visit to capture the wide open scenes. We sat in the garden in the sunshine whilst I made a smaller watercolour sketch from which I made this line and wash painting. I have tried to simplify the scene removing some of the clutter to focus on the details of the pub and the beautiful lines of the Thames barges. I particularly enjoy line and wash and find that it allows me to combine both a loose wash picking out the detail with the pen.

Materials used:

Bockingford 200lb Not (not hot pressed) watercolour paper, Windsor & Newton Artist quality watercolour; cobalt blue, light red, raw Sienna with a touch of Paynes grey.
