I made this painting from a sketch of the Hythe on a winters day as the mist was clearing. St Mary's Church is on the hill on the left and in front of this are a variety of boat sheds, cottages and a yacht club.
The tidal River Blackwater was almost perfectly still with just a few ripples from the gentle breeze and it was the mist and stillness that made this scene so attractive. Maldon is one of the few locations that house the beautiful 19th Century Thames Barges. (Please note that the actual size is 28x19cm)

Materials used:

Windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours; Cobolt Blue, Light Red, Raw Sienna on Bockingford 200lb paper.
