Artist's description:

This is an outdoor painting created in the Hunsrück region of Germany. The Hunsrück is the area of higher ground above the Mosel valley and much of the area is covered in dense forests. “After the Rain” is more an impression of the forests after the thunderstorms that we often have here in summer than of any particular place. In fact, I painted it on a bright summer´s day on a painting trip to the Hunsrück using the forests in front of me as a “model” for the “bad weather” painting. A man who stopped to see the artist at work asked surprisedly – “Is that here?!” In fact, I painted a second painting when this one was finished of what the scene really looked like (Summer is here! Geisfeld, Hunsrück”) which is also available on Artfinder.
The main colour here is the dark green of the trees but I like to keep my greens natural and really look at what individual trees look like in order to give a good representation of what a real forest looks like after rain. The soft medium of watercolour also lends itself particularly well to lifting out to create the effect of the mist rising up off the trees. There is a touch of hope of better weather ahead in the brightness of the distant meadows suggesting that the sun is just about to break through again. If you are going through a bad time at the moment, you can interpret a psychological background into this too! Life isn´t always about sunshine and flowers but I think there is beauty in somberness too – there is no light without dark, no sunshine without shade and no beautiful forests without rain!
This painting is one of a series of paintings of the Hunsrück region of Germany. It comes mounted and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
