"Frangipani, 2016" by Caroline Ashwood

“Inspired by the colours of autumn, multiple bright colour washes were applied over a very heavily textured base in my signature style to create a deep saturation of colour.”

"La Sévre Niortaise, 2016" by Jean David

“I guess I am often drawn to water scenes, and I painted this view of the Niortaise river as it flows through La Mothe-Saint-Heray on it's way down to the city of Niort last week. A lovely time of year on the river banks, and visited by a number of local fisherman, as the water quality appears to be in great shape and clear, and often during the course of the painting, there was the sound of the fish rising.”

"Radha's joyful dance, 2013" by Asha Shenoy

“This painting was inspired by "Gopi Geeth" from "Bhagavatam" a devotional book of the Hindus in India. Gopi Geeth is about the love the Gopis feel for Krishna the Godhead, their eternal Lover. Their love is not the physical one but of the eternal kind representing the human soul seeking the Supreme with whom it wants to unite to feel the ecstasy of oneness with God, to be liberated from the earthly desires and miseries. Radha, also a Gopi, is Krishna's lover and she dances as if delirious in the all consuming love for Krishna!”

"Mineral Fusions 1, 2014" by Cally Lawson

“This is one of a set of two abstract works. As a member of Green Door Artists who are Artists in residence at Kendal Museum, I had the opportunity to spend time sketching the exhibits within the museum's collections. One particular collection which caught my imagination, was the Hamer collection of minerals, collected from across the globe over many years. My original intention, was to concentrate on a study of just one specimen. However, there was such a variety of colour and form across the collection, I decided to create more abstract works, fusing shapes and forms from the whole collection. There is also iridescent medium added to these works, to emulate the iridescence on the minerals.”

"Holy water, 2015" by Kashika

“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can't go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does.” ― Margaret Atwood, The Penelopiad

"60 Letters of Love, 2016" by Emma Gibbons

“Artwork featuring 60 genuine love notes hidden within miniature glass bottles. It is both innocent and intimate at the same time.”

"Follow the light, 2015" by Stefan Zahariev

“I love dynamic weather, when the mountain is unpredictable! In such days the landscape is changing so fast, as if watching a movie - the mist is racing with the wind, shadows swallowing the sun... In such days one need so little to take the dream shot - a couple of storm clouds, a ray of light, as if came out of nowhere and a lone skier who crosses the white desert! Absolute minimalism - you really don't need more than that to make it!”

"Mandarin with blue fabric, 2016" by Toula Pafitis

“I wanted to convey the feel of the bumpy mandarin's skin and softness of the fabric in this little painting of a mandarin with blue floral fabric. The harmony of contrasting colours and textures is enhanced by natural light coming through the window, giving a delicate, fresh atmosphere.”

"Girdeco, 2016" by Peninky Doodles

“Lofty the giraffe is famous in his hometown of I can't tell you where (I signed a disclosure form.) He got tired of all the photographs being taken so decided to get some tattoos and hide in the leaves and flowers. When I started this portrait it was only going to be lofty on his own in his natural form but things progressed and we decided to hide his identity. Surrounded by leaves and flowers are where he likes to hang out. I used pen and ink with various shading techniques, some basic shading, hatch work and my favourite teeny tiny circles.”
