"Outside Sienna, 2014" by Brock Miles

“My girlfriend and I were traveling around Italy last year and made it to Sienna for a few days. We fell in love with the town and its iconic square, its espresso and pasta. We rented a car to explore the countryside surrounding the city and just kept driving and driving, wanting to see what was around every turn, and of course, the car breaks down around one of those turns. As we are standing outside the car, we notice a villa at the top of the hill and decide to take our chances on someone being home that can help us. We were in luck. Not only was the owner of the house able to get the car running, but his wonderful wife invited us to a long, lingering lunch with their entire Italian family, and needless to say, it was the best food we've ever had in our lives. This painting is of that little villa on top of the hill outside of Sienna.”

"Nocturne-X" by Stanislav Bojankov

“This painting is part of my series ‘Nocturnes’, which took inspiration from the music of Chopin - small, airy and short compositions constructed by means of free improvisation and a love for beauty. I remember my visits on weekends (being a student at the Cracow Academy) to the small castle in central Poland that is the birthplace of Chopin. I saw concerts of his music performed by pianists from all over the world in the family garden…a place full of harmony, peace and music sounding through the woods and meadows.”

"Ab-Flav, 2014" by Paul J Best

“This painting depicts Haemulon Flavolineatum, or French Grunts...tropical fish that is. This painting was inspired by a visit to Palma Aquarium in Mallorca last year. This painting started as an abstract but I soon got carried away! I love the visual effect that fish create and they provide a great subject for the use of reflective paints, which sing out in the right light. Having worked on a fish stall in Hackney in my youth, I have a great empathy with fish...I also found that this was a good way to empty the upper storey of a double decker bus!”

"Yorkshire Meadow., 2012" by Malcolm Ludvigsen

“This work was painted en plein-air (on the spot) recently in a water meadow just south of York and by the side of the river Ouse. It was a lovely way of spending a summer afternoon. This particular meadow has now been mown so this is my last meadow painting for year!”

"The Visitor, 2014" by Janet Mayled

“This is a very special view to me is it is of my home at Blackwell Mill, Buxton, Derbyshire. The cottages were once railway man cottages and can only be accessed by the footbridge, so quite an oasis. It is also close to the Monsal trail - a haven for cyclists and walkers and hence my bike in the foreground. This bike is particularly special to me, as I bought it as a treat when I decided to leave teaching and paint full time!”

"old Canal Street, 2011" by Pedar Dillon

“‘The Old Canal Street’ is one of many views from my childhood town - my inspiration. After a long absence from my home town I went back to visit; I did not recognise the place I had grown up. The rows of terrace houses where me and my friends lived were all gone. The long narrow streets that we had played in so happily as children remodelled into a new estate. Textile mills that I went to work in straight from school had been demolished, in their place the shopping mall. I decided there and then that I was going to record on canvas my memories of the town I loved.”

"'The Owl Of Chocolate And Charm', 2014" by Jilly Henderson

“Here is The Owl Of Chocolate And Charm, an owl who enjoys light reading, long baths and confidence building seminars...These cute little drawings are unique, funny, poignant and sometimes just plain silly...but they do make me laugh when I work on them! I find myself tapping into the habits and behaviours of people I have met or heard chatting and using the information collected, I start to draw. It's then my task to create an Owl who has human traits and desires and behaviours. My hope is that viewers will see a drawing and think...'That's just like me'...or...'That's just like my pal Helen'...and they will enjoy the work because I've hit on something particular to them...or, they'll just find it so random that it'll give them a giggle each time they see it.”

"Indigo Wave" by Corinne Natel

“Indigo Wave started out with the idea of painting a seascape. However as the painting developed, even though I painted the sea, Indigo Wave evolved to represent something else. To me it became the ‘sea of London’ in which the city was full of small separate individuals yet merging together with the energy of the waves, the energy of the city. The painting was created working with a palette knife, acrylic paint and luminous pink paint to give a vibrant colourful representation of beautiful creative London!”

"Little Bird, 2014" by Kellas Campbell

“A little sparrow in ink and charcoal -- I applied different layers of ink with a calligraphy brush, each layer darker than the last, and finally smudged in some charcoal to give the effect of movement and light. Enjoy!”

"In the city, 2013" by Vahe Hakobyan

“In this painting, Vahe expresses how he feels in the city. Sometimes it’s frightening, uncertain or even bleak. Being surrounded by millions of people you still might feel lonely and vulnerable. Sometimes you dream about becoming a city ghost at least for a while. However, after looking around you see that the phenomenon called the city is mostly about folks like you and that reality fuels your enthusiasm and makes you resistant towards the all-powerful city.”
