"Made of My Memories 1, 2014" by Lucie Jirku

“This piece of unique abstract art called ‘Made of My Memories 1’, is composed of colorful geometric fragments based on unrepeatable moments of the past. This original artwork is dedicated in memoriam to my beloved Grandparents; I have tried to capture the symbolic abstract expression of my childhood and the emotional connection to my loved ones. The flow of memories linger in the background of the fragile young soul. The medium size painting on standard edge canvas was painted with acrylics together with gold foil application.”

"Wild Oxeye Daisies, 2014" by Emma Cownie

“A ‘refractionist’ interpretation of the distant sunlight spilling, bleaching, corroding through a growth of wild oxeye daisies, which were growing by the side of the road near Ilston Chapel in Gower peninsula. The near oxeye daises dance in celebration of the sunlight and the far grasp at the sunlight sky. It is an image in formation, an expressive impression. Nothing is crystalline, just blobs of iridescent colour generated into being, out of the cool dark blue to the brilliant white, by the summer light.”

"Messi, 2014" by Mathew Vieira

“Born and raised in London, with a Portuguese background, I have always had an interest for art and technology. By combining these two passions I have developed my own style of portrait painting whereby I infuse the rigidness of the pixels formed within our gadgets with the fluidity of paint. Whilst studying I developed a technique of building up my paintings through a series of layers, shaping the figures with different planes I find on my subject. Whilst building the image up through a series of layers the paintings go through numerous stages, each of which are still visible in the final piece. This is a limited edition giclée print (edition of 100) of the footballer Lionel Messi.”

"City Study #2, 2014" by Dan Wellington

“My connection to London is a strong one as it is for many people, but stronger still was my desire to try and capture the every day grittiness, smells and atmosphere of the city on canvas. The reflected lights of the traffic and street lamps are far removed from the seascapes that I usually paint and this just heightened the experience for me. As much as it was about capturing the hustle and bustle of a busy city, it was also about those fleeting, rare moments of calm as the traffic eases and the wind dies momentarily. This is no.2 in my ‘City Study’ collection.”

"Human League, 2013" by Sam Parr

“I'm an 80s girl, I love almost everything about the 80s, but especially the music. The Human League was and is one of my favourite bands. Little did I know that I would move to their home city years later, spotting Phil Oakey in local clubs and at the supermarket. Sheffield is in many ways the home of Electro pop and I have created 4 Sheffield pop portraits so far, including Jarvis, Heaven 17 and The Arctic Monkeys, but my favourite of the 4 has to be this. C'mon...don't you want me baby?”

"Lazy exotic dream, 2014" by Mydominance

“This vivid and cheerful painting was inspired by my desire for an exotic journey; it makes me think of a lazy afternoon nap in an exotic, sun-drenched garden. This was made with an impasto technique, applying thick layers of oil paint to the canvas.”

"t'Tour 2014, 2014" by Saskia Palmer

“‘t'Tour 2014’ is a limited edition tri-colour lino print which celebrates the Tour de France Stage 2 coming to Yorkshire. The print has been created using the jigsaw method whereby, once carved, the lino plate is sliced into pieces which are inked separately and reassembled like a jigsaw, just before going under the press. After the print has dried, the distinctive yellow is then block printed over the central rider’s jersey and at the centre of the Yorkshire rose sun. Cyclists sweat it out in the hot Yorkshire Rose sunrise observed by a bemused Yorkshire terrier and with the backdrop of the beautiful South Yorkshire countryside.”

"Nurse Bunny Will See You Now, 2014" by Salty De Soufflé

“My work starts mainly with foraging at the local car boot sale on the Brighton sea front which I have to admit is a lot of fun. I spotted this piece a few weeks back. It was a beautiful, very well executed old watercolour of a rather distinguished gent. The frame was looking a bit crumbly as you'd expect of a picture that's been around for about 150 years – the writing on the back said that the fella was "George William Sawyer, Born 2nd April 1795 at Romsey, Hampshire". I ummed and awed about it for a bit as sometimes I don't want to do anything to a picture which is so well done but at the same time nobody else wanted him and I could give him a new lease of life, so I bought him! Once he came home I got him out of the frame and fixed that up a bit. Then I spent a long time fiddling around with bits of paper thinking about what to do with him, possibly a collage at first. The background came before I committed to the face. Once I'd painted in the background I finally decided that he was going to be Nurse Bunny then it all came together quite quickly after that. So it was quite a long process but I'm very pleased with the final result!”

"Inside Out, 2014" by Jason Ashwood

“‘Inside Out’ is the opening image of a long term project called ‘Urban Muse’, which explores the relationship between people and London, through ballet. It gives emerging talented dancers the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence working with both a photographer and choreographer. This opening image explores the concept of us battling, on occasion, with the weather in The City.”

"At the Bus Stop, 2013" by Jane Lees

“This piece was inspired by memories of past holidays in Spain, where there is a visible sense of community among the more senior members of society. You will see friends sitting in the same spot each day in the park outside their favourite cafe, chatting or just observing passers by. These Spanish ladies waiting for the bus caught my eye. Their comfortable and engaged familiarity make you want to lean in to catch the conversation, while the lady on the far left makes eye contact to show us she has become aware of our presence as onlookers to the scene.”
