Working with sketches and my visual memories of time spent exploring the coastline, sitting amongst the dune grasses...a series of new paintings evolves.

Big skies and wide open sand dunes of the Norfolk coast is my muse for a new collection of seascapes I am currently working on. Building layers and texture I am enjoying seeing these visual memories emerge on the canvas 💙 I hope to add these to my shop soon.

    A different perspective...

    A different perspective...

This old chair has served as a handy storage of paints and tools when I’m at work in the studio. Propped on top of my basket of paints is a whole load of dried scraps of paint from other palettes. Once the oil paint finally dries it can’t be used anymore so I have to scrape it off before cleaning my palettes ready to start over. They kind of look like paint petals 🌸💚🌿

    Sketchbooks

For me these treasured books with scribbled lines and paint splashes form such an important element of my creative process. They are my 'visual diaries' along with my memories, that perhaps will become the starting point for a composition, a new painting. And like a reference manual, I return to these pages again and again for inspiration 💚🌿

    Tools and materials

    Tools and materials

Over the years I’ve built up quite a collection of all sorts of things. When I’m working at my easel, there's linseed oil, white spirit, lots of tubes of lush gooey paints, and plates/palettes for mixing the colours. Then there’s different shaped palette knives and brushes for mark-making and scribing on the canvas. Painting with oils is quite a messy business!

    Now showing at VK Gallery...

I do love the creative process of styling my photos, sometimes a collection of beach or hedgerow finds or more ‘minimalist’ shots of my paintings (like this one). // 📷 “Endless Summer” currently showing at VK Gallery owned by the lovely Victoria 🌸
