  • The Spirit of Blue

    The Spirit of Blue

My very favourite colour (Phthalo Blue) is predominant in this, my latest large painting on linen. I think I'll call it The Spirit of Blue even though it's got red and pink and dawn or sunset in it and the gaze of the angel is leading our eye to that event, .but it's really all about that shade of blue that I love so much.

Thank you happy collector of my work ...

I've just been sent this photograph of the recently purchased pastel drawing beautifully framed. Thank you buyer for sending this to me and letting me know that you're happy with it! It's always lovely to get feedback and this collector found me on Artfinder having bought my work way back in the early 1990s when I used to hold Open Studios in Beck Road, London! (This particular pastel was created as a book cover for "Woman On The Edge Of Time" which published by Women's Press 1990)

Astrology: Included in the TASCHEN Library of Esoterica 2020

Astrology: Included in the TASCHEN Library of Esoterica 2020

Earlier in the year I was thrilled to have one of my Tarot images (from 1996) included in the TASCHEN "Library of Esoterica" Volume I: Tarot. So now I am completely over the moon to have TWO of my Astrological images from my 2012 personal series included in the very recent publication TASCHEN "Library of Esoterica" Volume 2: Astrology. It's a gorgeous, glossy book jam-packed with fabulous astrological imagery from throughout the Ages. When I was a young artist living in London, I used to spend Saturdays in Zwemmers Art Bookshop in Charing Cross Road, looking at Taschen Publications and longing to be included in one - one day! Shown in this photograph is the full page PISCES and CANCER. Both are watercolours and they, along with the 10 other in the set, are in a private collection in Northern Ireland. This series was the third time in my career that I have illustrated the 12 Astrological signs: the first was for Cosmopolitan Magazine in 1990, the second for Aura Soma Publications in 1999 and the third was for my own personal portfolio in 2012. Perhaps I will recreate them again one day, as it's a subject that never fails to fascinate me! The full set of 12 images are now available as limited edition prints! (see Page 13 and 14 of my shop).

    Emerald Treasure - Róisín Dubh

    Emerald Treasure - Róisín Dubh

Pastel drawing nearing completion late October 2020 Chalks on handmade cotton paper 12 x 17” / 30 x 44cm I’ve been working in chalk pastels since 1986 and to date my largest artwork in this versatile medium was a set of 6 pieces each 76x112cm - see post below this one. Mostly though, I tend to work on A3 or on a larger format (22x30”/56x76cm). This latter size formed the bulk of my output in the 1990s, a few of which are available here towards the middle pages of my shop. My palette was darker then; my lifestyle change moving to the countryside in 1993 has brightened my use of colour as well as introducing landscape into my work too.

River Of Time (Worcester City Art Gallery)

River Of Time (Worcester City Art Gallery)

In winter 1989 I had an exhibition of my very large pastels and prints at the lovely Worcester City Art Gallery. My River of Time was the centre piece ... it is a set of six pastel drawings , each 76 x 112 cm (30 x 44") on Somerset 300gsm paper. At the time they were framed glazed, to the edge of each panel, then fitted together to make one huge piece. When I moved to Lincolnshire in the early 1990s they were taken from their frames for storage, so I am now offering them for sale unframed.

    Recent box + 4 pieces from 1990

    Recent box + 4 pieces from 1990

I used to paint on boxes in 1990; here are four examples which were packed away when I moved to Lincolnshire from London in 1992. They've never been exhibited before so I am now listing them for sale. The larger box in the middle is very recent, from mid 2020, and has already sold. Some of these are decoupage as well as simply being acrylics and gold paint applied onto the wood then varnished. Each box has little golden coloured clasps. Close up photos can be seen in my shop ...

    Woman thinking of turquoise

I occasionally work in pastels. This was my favoured medium throughout the 80s and 90s ... I love blending the colours with my hands. Here in this video I'm working on a special pastel paper with a velour-like velvety surface. Here's the final touches being added ... and i just lovely turquoise!

    Another tree image on A4

    Another tree image on A4

This is the latest in my tree series on A4. The set started off as purely landscape but figures have steadily crept in, and this, the twelfth, is "Eos, The Rosy-Fingered Dawn" ... The series so far can been seen on page 1 of my shop.

New year, new set of images ...

New year, new set of images ...

Throughout the first two weeks of January I've been working on a set of images of trees, some with figures. These are on my favourite 320gsm Khadi 100% cotton paper, A4 size 21 x 30cm, using watercolour and Inktense watercolour pencil ... this is one example. They will be uploaded soon
